Golden,
Marita. Don’t Play in the Sun. New
York: Anchor, 2005. 208
Don’t Play in the Sun showed me the life of a dark skinned women and what she witnesses through the community of color complex today. This book talks a lot about light skinned African Americans having more advantages over the darker ones. How being light skinned mean you were more pretty and will be more successful in life. How parents who had dark children making them marry someone who is lighter than them. This book stereotypes dark skinned black girls, talking about their personality and features they had. How all t men would go for a light skinned black American than a darker one because she wasn’t as pretty as the light skinned one. Light skinned parents disappointed when one of their kids bring home a dark skinned person. This book really shows how being African American but being different shades of black matter.

Russell,
Kathy. The Color Complex. New York:
Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1992. 183
The Color Complex helped me understand when and how this color complex all happened and why it got dragged on to today. This book took me all the way back to the masters, salves and lovers. All the affairs that went on with a white man and black girl or vice-versa. The privileges light skinned African Americans had over dark skinned African Americans. This book help me dig through the details on what was so different from a light skinned and dark skinned African American all the way to today on how blacks treated each other in our own community because of shades of black.
