LIGHT SKINS
"Light, bright and sometimes white" (Russel, 107)
Back then, "being biracial, these people receive harsh
treatments from the black community" (Russell,76). "Blacks who were lighter decide to pass for white, paid a heavy price for their betrayal" (Russell,73).
DARK SKINS
Also back then, blacks were stereotyped. "Dark-skinned girls because they have too much attitude"(Golden, 57). "Bossy. Domineering. Hard. Bitchy. Difficult"(Golden,61).
Overall
Most people back then believe that only the light skin people were pretty. "If a black person was light skinned with good hair and good facial features, then she's the shit. Even if she had short hair but good features, she'll be alright. But a dark skin girl with short hair could forget it. And if she had a big nose, the she should just be a nun. But if she has long hair and good features, her skin can be over-look" (Russel,82). There is an issue with light skin and dark skin black people. If it's being light or dark, both sides thought they were better than the other. Why it is an issue, is because it all started back then and the way blacks were treated by the world. Yes, this issue of being light skin or dark skin is still going on today. You can see it through social media or just see it through everyday life. Light skins and dark skins feel the need to compete with each other.
